Every year the NPT Summer Lecture & Luncheon features a leader from the fields of architecture, preservation, landscape design or interior design whose work contributes to the preservation of our shared historic heritage. Our lecture is followed by a leisurely luncheon in a lovely setting.

The 2025 Summer Lecture & Luncheon will be held on Tuesday, July 22 and feature award-winning designer Marshall Watson. Marshall’s latest book, Defining Elegance, was published by Rizzoli on March 11.

Informed by not only his careers in theatre design and acting, but also his passion for gardening, Marshall weaves together principals that have inextricably influenced his particular approach to interior design.

Identifiably elegant, his work has all the hallmarks of classic design: site specific, client sensitive, well researched, highly detailed, and historically inspired, yet always comfortable, creative, and approachable. Marshall will open doors to projects from New York to Napa, Hawai’i to Palm Beach and share his informative, entertaining, and often moving journey.

Each year, we look forward to our Annual August Fête as a celebration of the architectural heritage we are working to preserve, and our incredible supporters who help make that work possible.

Join us on Thursday, August 7 and Party ’til the Cows Come Home at the Eleanor Ham Pony Field. Tour historic homes in the historic Mill Street neighborhood, a piece of pastoral days gone by tucked away in Town. Enjoy cocktails and hearty hors d’oeuvres from Nantucket Catering Company, a raw bar by LegaSea Nantucket, and live music, all in a beautiful tented reception. The Fête also features our annual Sense of Place Auction, with items from Nantucket artists and artisans, as well as one of a kind experiences.

Each year the Nantucket Preservation Trust recognizes individuals and organizations that advance the cause of historic preservation on Nantucket. Awards are provided for preservation work on historic buildings and landscapes, and for the protection and stewardship of island resources. NPT’s Preservation Awards program is designed to show that a building or landscape can be sensitively updated while maintaining and preserving its historic integrity. In general, the NPT Preservation Awards emphasize proper preservation, showcase the island’s craftspeople, and reveal the foresight of owners who care about our historic structures and landscape.
